Narrative:

After landing on runway 08 at iah, tower's instructions were: 'turn right at next taxiway and contact ground control.' the next taxiway consisted of a high speed about 40 degrees off runway heading, and a reverse high speed taxiway, heading back toward the terminal, to which we were going. I chose the reverse high speed, only to be told when I contacted ground control that the taxiway we were on was 'closed' by the city. I told him that I didn't hear of the closing in the ATIS, and the controller said the closing was in the NOTAMS. I checked the current NOTAMS from the company printer that I had onboard, and the information was not included. Upon return to my home base I further checked all the available NOTAMS, and still could not find any reference to the closed taxiway. My suggestion is that closed txwys, especially those at runway turnoffs, should be painted closed and barricaded if possible. Also, tower controllers could be more helpful in these situations. I fly into more than 100 different airports and some I get into less than once a yr--so in the rushed atmosphere of trying to clear the runway after landing, it's almost a sure thing that this kind of mistake is going to be made. Fortunately, there was no aircraft damage or injury in this incident.

Title: CAPT OF MLG USED REVERSE HIGH SPEED TAXI AFTER LNDG ON RWY 8 AT IAH. TWR ADVISED FLT CREW THE TXWY WAS CLOSED.

Narrative: AFTER LNDG ON RWY 08 AT IAH, TWR'S INSTRUCTIONS WERE: 'TURN RIGHT AT NEXT TXWY AND CONTACT GND CTL.' THE NEXT TXWY CONSISTED OF A HIGH SPD ABOUT 40 DEGS OFF RWY HDG, AND A REVERSE HIGH SPD TXWY, HDG BACK TOWARD THE TERMINAL, TO WHICH WE WERE GOING. I CHOSE THE REVERSE HIGH SPD, ONLY TO BE TOLD WHEN I CONTACTED GND CTL THAT THE TXWY WE WERE ON WAS 'CLOSED' BY THE CITY. I TOLD HIM THAT I DIDN'T HEAR OF THE CLOSING IN THE ATIS, AND THE CTLR SAID THE CLOSING WAS IN THE NOTAMS. I CHKED THE CURRENT NOTAMS FROM THE COMPANY PRINTER THAT I HAD ONBOARD, AND THE INFO WAS NOT INCLUDED. UPON RETURN TO MY HOME BASE I FURTHER CHKED ALL THE AVAILABLE NOTAMS, AND STILL COULD NOT FIND ANY REF TO THE CLOSED TXWY. MY SUGGESTION IS THAT CLOSED TXWYS, ESPECIALLY THOSE AT RWY TURNOFFS, SHOULD BE PAINTED CLOSED AND BARRICADED IF POSSIBLE. ALSO, TWR CTLRS COULD BE MORE HELPFUL IN THESE SITUATIONS. I FLY INTO MORE THAN 100 DIFFERENT ARPTS AND SOME I GET INTO LESS THAN ONCE A YR--SO IN THE RUSHED ATMOSPHERE OF TRYING TO CLR THE RWY AFTER LNDG, IT'S ALMOST A SURE THING THAT THIS KIND OF MISTAKE IS GOING TO BE MADE. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO ACFT DAMAGE OR INJURY IN THIS INCIDENT.
