Narrative:
Hub rush hour. We were cleared onto runway right after a light twin was landing and tower said other landing traffic was 1 1/2 mi out. We went into position and hold, waiting for the light twin to clear the runway. As the twin was clearing, we were cleared for takeoff. The captain pushed the power up and we started to roll. My scan went to make sure the twin was clear, then movement caught my eye down the runway. An medium large transport had just started to cross the runway we were cleared for takeoff on. I told the captain what I saw and he aborted takeoff. I told the tower we aborted and why. They came back and said sorry. They subsequently gave me the impression that they were aware of the medium large transport, but just didn't relay the information to us. This was completely unsafe and potentially extremely dangerous.

Title: FLT CREW ABORTED TKOF ACCOUNT AN MLG CROSSING THE RWY AT DEP END.
Narrative: HUB RUSH HOUR. WE WERE CLRED ONTO RWY RIGHT AFTER A LIGHT TWIN WAS LNDG AND TWR SAID OTHER LNDG TFC WAS 1 1/2 MI OUT. WE WENT INTO POS AND HOLD, WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TWIN TO CLR THE RWY. AS THE TWIN WAS CLRING, WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. THE CAPT PUSHED THE PWR UP AND WE STARTED TO ROLL. MY SCAN WENT TO MAKE SURE THE TWIN WAS CLR, THEN MOVEMENT CAUGHT MY EYE DOWN THE RWY. AN MLG HAD JUST STARTED TO CROSS THE RWY WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF ON. I TOLD THE CAPT WHAT I SAW AND HE ABORTED TKOF. I TOLD THE TWR WE ABORTED AND WHY. THEY CAME BACK AND SAID SORRY. THEY SUBSEQUENTLY GAVE ME THE IMPRESSION THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE MLG, BUT JUST DIDN'T RELAY THE INFO TO US. THIS WAS COMPLETELY UNSAFE AND POTENTIALLY EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
