Narrative:
On left downwind for 31 was asked to extend downwind as there was another aircraft on a right base to runway 31. Extended downwind. Turned left base. Was cleared to land. #2 following aircraft on right base. Saw other aircraft about time I was starting my turn to final. Was at same exact altitude 3000' +/- to left front. I considered this too close for safe landing since my small aircraft is generally faster than other small planes. Advised controller I was aborting and going around for another try. Gyro compass was one item I was checking as original one went bad and was replaced within past year. Replacement did not work right and it was replaced within previous month. Apparently this one also was off as controller claimed I disregarded his instructions. He also had an aircraft on practice ILS approach to runway 36 whom, he claimed, he had to abort because of my aircraft.

Title: CLOSE PROX GA-SMA GA-SMA ONE ON RIGHT BASE AND THE OTHER ON LEFT BASE LEG TO SAME RWY.
Narrative: ON L DOWNWIND FOR 31 WAS ASKED TO EXTEND DOWNWIND AS THERE WAS ANOTHER ACFT ON A R BASE TO RWY 31. EXTENDED DOWNWIND. TURNED L BASE. WAS CLRED TO LAND. #2 FOLLOWING ACFT ON R BASE. SAW OTHER ACFT ABOUT TIME I WAS STARTING MY TURN TO FINAL. WAS AT SAME EXACT ALT 3000' +/- TO L FRONT. I CONSIDERED THIS TOO CLOSE FOR SAFE LNDG SINCE MY SMA IS GENERALLY FASTER THAN OTHER SMALL PLANES. ADVISED CTLR I WAS ABORTING AND GOING AROUND FOR ANOTHER TRY. GYRO COMPASS WAS ONE ITEM I WAS CHKING AS ORIGINAL ONE WENT BAD AND WAS REPLACED WITHIN PAST YEAR. REPLACEMENT DID NOT WORK RIGHT AND IT WAS REPLACED WITHIN PREVIOUS MONTH. APPARENTLY THIS ONE ALSO WAS OFF AS CTLR CLAIMED I DISREGARDED HIS INSTRUCTIONS. HE ALSO HAD AN ACFT ON PRACTICE ILS APCH TO RWY 36 WHOM, HE CLAIMED, HE HAD TO ABORT BECAUSE OF MY ACFT.
