Narrative:
Landed at buf without ATC clearance. Believing I was landing at bfd airport, after receiving landing clearance from bradford FSS (to runway 23 altimeter setting and winds at 14 KTS). Problem arose when I was over bradford area and ran into haze over the area and passed the airport, unable to use the VOR at bradford I kept flying on course not realizing that I was past it. Another contributing factor is that this was my first x-country in the north, all my other flying had been done in florida. I didn't discover I had made an error until I was on the ground. I landed on runway 23, pulled off to the taxiway, stopped, put my flaps up, looked out the cockpit and saw a building saying buffalo. I looked at the tower and they were shooting a red light in my direction, and I knew that it must be for me. At that time a truck came and assisted me to the parking area. As far as prevention: I believe that my next flts will be with an instructor for the near future.
