Narrative:
Upon deplaning, the F/a in charge informed me that a passenger had identified himself as being 'with the FAA' and said the PA announcements were too long! He said they should never be more than 60 seconds in length and that pilots should be paying more attention to flying rather than making excessive 'PA's'. During the flight, an ATC man from 'bay TRACON' (oakland, ca) was riding jumpseat and he had nothing but compliments on the conduct of the flight crew during 5+ hours in the seat. I have never received anything but praise for my use of the PA to keep the passenger informed throughout all phases of flight over 17 yrs as an airline crew member. No PA's were made while the aircraft was in the 'sterile environment', except safety of flight information, and the cruise PA's were brief and informative. Unfortunately, I discovered that this individual had already deplaned and departed the area. I feel his comments were not based on far's, were very subjective, and inappropriate. If you have a complaint, you should see that it is directed to the individual responsible, and attempt to correct a problem first-hand, in aviation, or any other profession.

Title: PASSENGER ON ACR MLG CLAIMING TO BE WITH FAA, TELLS CABIN ATTENDANT THAT THE FLT CREW SHOULD MAKE THE PA'S TO THE PASSENGERS SHORTER, BUT DISAPPEARS BEFORE THE FLT CREW IS ABLE TO REQUEST ELABORATION.

I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING BUT PRAISE FOR MY USE OF THE PA TO KEEP THE PAX INFORMED THROUGHOUT ALL PHASES OF FLT OVER 17 YRS AS AN AIRLINE CREW MEMBER. NO PA'S WERE MADE WHILE THE ACFT WAS IN THE 'STERILE ENVIRONMENT', EXCEPT SAFETY OF FLT INFO, AND THE CRUISE PA'S WERE BRIEF AND INFORMATIVE. UNFORTUNATELY, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS INDIVIDUAL HAD ALREADY DEPLANED AND DEPARTED THE AREA. I FEEL HIS COMMENTS WERE NOT BASED ON FAR'S, WERE VERY SUBJECTIVE, AND INAPPROPRIATE.
