Narrative:
We took off and flew without incident to bridgeport airport and proceeded to practice touch and go lndgs. After approximately 10 touch and goes I gave her an engine cut (simulated failure with throttles) while on downwind. We landed without incident. About 2 circuits later, after turning final, I remarked we were a little far from the runway in case of power failure when indeed the throttle became inoperative. I took the airplane for the glide straight ahead (approximately 500' AGL). She pulled the mixture about half way out and the engine caught for Q or 2 seconds then quit again. We landed short of runway 17 with no damage whatsoever, on the airport property. I monitored 121.5 and heard nothing. We then had the airplane towed to the ramp. (Still with approximately half tanks both sides). We caught a ride back to kezer field and on examining the aircraft logbooks the last annual was recorded as 1/xx/89. My student (the new owner) had seen this as a possible discrepancy prior to purchase and asked specifically whether or not it was out of annual. The previous owner (retired air force) had informed her that indicated the annual was completed on 5/xx/89 and that it wasn't due again until 5/90.

Title: ENGINE OF SMA QUIT IN TRAFFIC PATTERN. STUDENT AND INSTRUCTOR MADE LNDG ON ARPT PROPERTY WITHOUT DAMAGE OR INJURY.
Narrative: WE TOOK OFF AND FLEW WITHOUT INCIDENT TO BRIDGEPORT ARPT AND PROCEEDED TO PRACTICE TOUCH AND GO LNDGS. AFTER APPROX 10 TOUCH AND GOES I GAVE HER AN ENGINE CUT (SIMULATED FAILURE WITH THROTTLES) WHILE ON DOWNWIND. WE LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. ABOUT 2 CIRCUITS LATER, AFTER TURNING FINAL, I REMARKED WE WERE A LITTLE FAR FROM THE RWY IN CASE OF POWER FAILURE WHEN INDEED THE THROTTLE BECAME INOPERATIVE. I TOOK THE AIRPLANE FOR THE GLIDE STRAIGHT AHEAD (APPROX 500' AGL). SHE PULLED THE MIXTURE ABOUT HALF WAY OUT AND THE ENGINE CAUGHT FOR Q OR 2 SECONDS THEN QUIT AGAIN. WE LANDED SHORT OF RWY 17 WITH NO DAMAGE WHATSOEVER, ON THE ARPT PROPERTY. I MONITORED 121.5 AND HEARD NOTHING. WE THEN HAD THE AIRPLANE TOWED TO THE RAMP. (STILL WITH APPROX HALF TANKS BOTH SIDES). WE CAUGHT A RIDE BACK TO KEZER FIELD AND ON EXAMINING THE ACFT LOGBOOKS THE LAST ANNUAL WAS RECORDED AS 1/XX/89.
