Narrative:
We were at 3000 ft on downwind flap 1 210 knots first officer flying. We received a turn to heading 360 and the first officer started [to] slow when with a loud crack (loud enough to be heard in cabin) the captain's windshield cracked covering the capt; first officer; and filling the cockpit with tiny shards of glass. The crew [advised ATC] and received an immediate vector to final. Evaluating the situation the crew found the inner pane of the captain's windshield had shattered and the outer pane looked solid as best as we could tell. We slowed to final approach speed to reduce pressure on windshield and coordinated through ATC to call company for a tow-in; since glass shards were still hitting the captain in the face. The captain briefed the first officer that he would clear the runway and taxi to the ramp where we would shut down and get towed in the rest of the way. We landed normally [and] the capt coordinated with ground while the first officer taxied the aircraft as briefed.
