Narrative:
As I was coming into my 3rd solo landing of the day; I had to switch to xxr from my xxl course. I lined up the glide path as I continued my descent. As I got closer to the runway; my engine began to run really rough. I lost lift and attempted to pull back on the yoke to maintain lift since I was close to entering ground effect. The plane dropped rapidly and the plane landed hard; bounced up and hit again. I attempted to add power in as soon as I could yet the engine would not power up fast enough; and the plane bounced a third time before I had enough power to begin a climb. I started my go around after the third bounce; trying to keep a climb. Airspeed continued to be low; around 60 knots with the stall horn on. I began a right turn to try to stay close to the runway. I attempted to land on runway yyr but was coming in too fast now. I used the airspeed I gained from the descent towards yyr to climb out and get to a safe altitude of about 600 ft AGL. Maintaining contact with the tower; I continued outbound until I turned around and landed on runway xxl. I was able to make a stabilized landing with full flaps. I pulled off the runway; contacted ground frequency and pulled back into a parking lot to meet with my instructor.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: C172 instructor and his student reported a supervised solo where the engine began to run rough on final. A botched landing resulted in the aircraft making a 180 and landing the opposite direction.
