Narrative:
I was the PF. I requested runway 04 for departure since we were in the penalty box by runway 04. Dca ground told us to expect runway 04 for departure. After a 30 minute delay; dca tower told us to line up and wait on runway 04 as we were still in the penalty box. After taking the runway for departure; ATC amended our clearance to maintain 2;000 feet. After we received our altitude change I keyed the mike and asked tower what heading would they would like me to fly and they responded fly the DOCTR2 departure. I thought I saw runway 04 in the FMS box as we were lined up on the runway but I was mistaken. Runway 01 was in the box instead of runway 04. As we departed 04 I made my left turn to join the doctr 2 RNAV departure and tower asked me to turn right to a 070 heading right away and during her transmission I heard a voice in the background say 'no; don't do that'. I chose not to comply with her turn because I would violate P56 if I would have turned right. I was over the river complying with the doctr RNAV departure and the right turn would have put me right into P56. I continued on with the doctr RNAV departure and complied with all speed and altitude requests per the SID. Tower told us to contact departure and the rest of the flight was uneventful. I was not given a number to contact from ATC.this event clearly could have been prevented by looking at the FMS clearly and seeing runway 04 in the box instead of runway 01. For the life of me I do not know how I missed this but I think because I was in the penalty box and from the penalty box tower instructed me to line up and wait; my first officer and I rushed through the checklists because I anticipated a takeoff clearance right away. Dca tower was launching airplanes quickly this day and I rushed through the checklists. I also thought a revised clearance was going to be given once we were going on the runway. I will slow down when I'm being rushed and will not allow this to happen again.contacted dca tower when I landed. Spoke with [someone] at the tower and he informed me no separation deviation occurred. [Another air carrier] did do a go around during my departure but that was because they thought they did not receive a landing clearance which had nothing to do with my departure.
