Narrative:
Takeoff go-around [power] takeoff; flaps 2. After V1; loud explosion; aircraft yawed left; cleaned up; [advised ATC]. Eng 1 egt over limit ECAM. Ran ECAM; brought left engine to idle thrust per procedure; QRH follow up required no other action. Left engine remained at idle thrust for remainder of flight. No indication of fire from cockpit. Communicated with crew; passengers; and company; returned to ZZZ; 1000 pounds below max landing weight. Stopped after landing for airport rescue and fire fighting (arff) services to check for fire and or damage; arff notified us we were not on fire and no smoke; arff followed us to our gate; contacted maintenance; and dispatch.

Title: A321 flight crew reported explosion on takeoff with ENG 1 EGT OVER LIMIT ECAM. They ran the QRH procedure with engine at idle thrust and returned for uneventful landing. Cause listed as a compressor stall.
