Narrative:

I was on IFR flight in VFR from sikeston, mo to chicago meigs. I cancelled over champaign at 10000 MSL. I stayed in contact with ATC VFR and descended to 3500 by chicago heights, then descended to 2500 on into meigs. I had an illinois state flight map VFR and necessary IFR charts. When I got on the ground it appeared that the illinois map may not be complete and I may have been at a higher altitude than I should have been. Correct action: state map to be correct and compact. Pilot to be prepared in event change a flight plan IFR to VFR. More help from chicago ATC for VFR traffic.

Title: SMT PLT REPORTS A POSSIBLE IMPROPER ALT WHICH MAY HAVE RESULTED IN AN UNAUTH PENETRATION OF AIRSPACE. CITES INADEQUATE INFORMATION ON CHART IN USE.

WHEN I GOT ON THE GND IT APPEARED THAT THE ILLINOIS MAP MAY NOT BE COMPLETE AND I MAY HAVE BEEN AT A HIGHER ALT THAN I SHOULD HAVE BEEN. CORRECT ACTION: STATE MAP TO BE CORRECT AND COMPACT.
