Narrative:
After being cleared for takeoff, all runway in front and to both sides were clear of any obstructions and vehs. After advancing power to takeoff power and airspeed came alive, I observed a tan van (FAA veh) to be approaching the runway from left to right at a high rate of speed. I did not believe the veh was going to stop. I aborted the takeoff roll and advised tower of the runway incursion. Tower said, 'yeh, ground's yelling at him, you're cleared for takeoff again.' takeoff and flight were continued. Uneventful. I think tower took the incursion a little nonchalant. Supplemental information from acn 137895: I was working local control and cleared the twin engine turboprop for takeoff. I watched the aircraft round the corner for departure. Then I looked at the BRITE scope to check for inbnds. I heard ground control say stop, county veh stop. The pilot says there is a veh crossing the active runway. He had come to a stop and I then stated hold your position. He (the pilot) stated, 'did you see the veh.' I said ground control told the veh to stop and we are taking care of it.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR ON TKOF ROLL ABORTED BECAUSE OF A VEHICLE CROSSING THE RWY.
Narrative: AFTER BEING CLRED FOR TKOF, ALL RWY IN FRONT AND TO BOTH SIDES WERE CLR OF ANY OBSTRUCTIONS AND VEHS. AFTER ADVANCING PWR TO TKOF PWR AND AIRSPD CAME ALIVE, I OBSERVED A TAN VAN (FAA VEH) TO BE APCHING THE RWY FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AT A HIGH RATE OF SPD. I DID NOT BELIEVE THE VEH WAS GOING TO STOP. I ABORTED THE TKOF ROLL AND ADVISED TWR OF THE RWY INCURSION. TWR SAID, 'YEH, GND'S YELLING AT HIM, YOU'RE CLRED FOR TKOF AGAIN.' TKOF AND FLT WERE CONTINUED. UNEVENTFUL. I THINK TWR TOOK THE INCURSION A LITTLE NONCHALANT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 137895: I WAS WORKING LCL CTL AND CLRED THE TWIN ENG TURBOPROP FOR TKOF. I WATCHED THE ACFT ROUND THE CORNER FOR DEP. THEN I LOOKED AT THE BRITE SCOPE TO CHK FOR INBNDS. I HEARD GND CTL SAY STOP, COUNTY VEH STOP. THE PLT SAYS THERE IS A VEH XING THE ACTIVE RWY. HE HAD COME TO A STOP AND I THEN STATED HOLD YOUR POS. HE (THE PLT) STATED, 'DID YOU SEE THE VEH.' I SAID GND CTL TOLD THE VEH TO STOP AND WE ARE TAKING CARE OF IT.
