Narrative:
I was just doing my time building thing for cessna 152 and I initially booked different aircraft and ended up got switched to aircraft X. Prior to take off; I saw there was a maintenance block on that aircraft on schedule and maintenance squawk sheet showed 'radio'. I went ahead to ask the school maintenance to verify that everything was okay for that aircraft. At the same time; I did my pre-flight inspection. The maintenance told me that everything was checked accordingly and there was nothing abnormal for that aircraft. Therefore; I followed the 152 checklist from pre-flight all the way to run-up. During my run-up; I checked everything and followed the checklist including RPM/radio and everything was looking okay and the radio was okay that I was able to contact the school line service for fuel and able to contact ZZZ ground and tower. To make sure that this aircraft is safe for flight; I requested the tower for west departure that I would like to do some test run at west practice area before landing away from different airport. Everything was okay until I climbed up to 3000 feet that I was trying to lean the airplane mixture. I found out a different problem with this aircraft that the RPM kept showing 2500 even I tried to put more lean on the mixture and reduced the power. At the same time; I spot that airspeed was showing something abnormal that I just slightly reduced my angle of my flight and the airspeed showed from 90 knots to 120 knots in yellow arc. At that moment; I knew that there was something wrong with that aircraft. Therefore; I decided to return to the ZZZ airport and my intention was to abort my flight at this time. I felt not safe to continue with this flight. While heading back to the airport; I constantly made radio calls at west practice area to let others know my position and attitude. Just be safe to enter delta airspace; I make my radio calls prior to ZZZ airport and I included my position and attitude in the calls. I didn't hear the tower responses until I hear 'aircraft X left downwind 31L' as soon as I hear my call sign; I replied them right away that 'aircraft X left downwind runway 31L' while I am doing my decent checklist and before landing checklist' I received a call from the tower saying 'aircraft X left downwind runway 31L.' again; I replied to the tower immediately 'aircraft X left downwind 31L' for a while; I received a call from the tower saying 'aircraft X can you hear me' for two times. Until that moment; I knew that there was something wrong with my radio. I did my trouble shoot and tried to see if my radio could work again but unfortunately; my radio failed. Tower told me that 'aircraft X; if you could hear; please rock your wing' and then I did rock my wing. At that time; tower knew that my radio was not working properly. I followed the tower. At that moment; I requested to the tower that I need to go around because I overshot the runway and I knew the school stabilized bound n go policy. Then tower asked me to go to 'runway 31L right downwind' at the same time; I kept sending out my radio calls to the tower that I would like to use 31R for landing because I am in distress situation (RPM/airspeed/radio) but I couldn't let tower know my intentions because I couldn't make any calls to the tower. At that moment; I hear the tower saying that 'aircraft X; use any available runway for land' after landing; at 31R; I followed the tower to taxi to exit. After I safely landed parked the aircraft; I immediately squawked for the aircraft.
