Narrative:
Approximately 45 minutes after departure I (captain) started to feel ill. First officer (first officer) [was] pilot flying. As flight progressed; I felt progressively worst. After landing and taxi in; I requested the first officer contact ops and have paramedics meet the aircraft after passengers deplaned. Initially diagnosed as food poisoning and transported to hospital er; later diagnosis revealed I was suffering from a kidney stone.no emergency or priority exercised; flight landed and parked normally.first officer performed flawlessly; and after an outstanding flight and approach; took the initiative to assure I was taken care of and got my belongings together; as well as coordinated with the station and crew tracking to ensure a new captain was assigned for the return flight the following afternoon. I cannot emphasize enough how professionally he handled the situation and made sure I was taken care of once we arrived at the gate.
