Narrative:
Nose wheel steering inoperative caution message on takeoff at 300 feet. Ran checklist; message persisted; we contacted dispatch and maintenance control and prepared the fas and passengers. We [advised ATC] and requested crash fire rescue equipment and landed [at destination] uneventfully. We were towed to the gate. Item was 'op checked ok' in maintenance log earlier in the day. Perhaps a closer look at write up could have prevented the event.
