Narrative:
We have received tbl 190 towbarless tow tractors from kalamar. These tractors are equipped with portable gpus to power mainline aircraft. The gpu is on the right side of the tug which corresponds with the plugs on the mainline aircraft we use. We are being told for night operations; which require us to have position lights on all aircraft; to use the tbl 190 for the ERJ175 aircraft. The issue is that the connection for the gpu on an ERJ175 is on aircraft left which causes us to drape the gpu power cord across the tug to the opposite side of the tug. This causes the gpu power cord to fall into the cradle area of the tug during turns. This could cause damage to the cord; the tug; or the aircraft if it gets caught.
