Narrative:

I was told to relieve the radar controller because he was going to get close to two hours on position if I didn't get him out. I plugged in to take the position and he asked me to put in the lancer; willie; and roscoe moas display on the radar because he couldn't figure it out. I put them on and noticed that things weren't going well so I just sat on the radar assist position to try and help fix things.I was there for about 30 minutes and during that time frame I tried to get him to give me a position relief briefing for the radar; but he wouldn't do it. I spent a large portion of working the assist on the line trying to coordinate or figure out what was going on. While sitting there I witnessed around 5 planes get climbed into the high sector without any coordination; several aircraft got switched without the handoff being taken; a lack of understand on how our radios work; and data blocks not getting any updates. There were so many things that were done incorrectly that I am unable to recall all of them. Even in the instances when I was able to tell him to fix something; he acted like I wasn't there or flat out didn't understand what I was saying.this needs to be looked at in depth by several people and an according plan of action formulated after that. I believe this controller didn't even know things were bad at the time and for me to come up with a solution to this is outside of my pay grade.
