Narrative:
On our base leg to runway 29 at cae; we took evasive action to avoid a traffic conflict. We noticed traffic after being cleared for the visual approach and handed off to tower. We observed the traffic to be climbing from right to left on a course/path we believed would intersect and concurred we had to act quickly to maintain sufficient separation. The first officer disconnected the autopilot and maneuvered to maintain distance while descending. After clearing the traffic; we resumed the visual approach and landed without incident.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: Regional Jet flight crew; on a visual approach to CAE reported experiencing an airborne conflict over CUB. The conflict occurred during the frequency change from Approach to Tower and ATC only issued a general traffic advisory about traffic in the pattern at CUB.
