Narrative:
Our gulfstream 550 was observed to have a MCR1 fail cas message prior to departure. The mmel was consulted and relief was provided for this message. The relief is granted with associated comm and nav radios operative and opposite ATC. A functional check of all comms was made and ADF 1 was found to be failed as seen clearly by dashed lines. All other buttons and functions on the radio control page of our mdcus appeared to work normally. There were no other indications of problems. Upon takeoff ATC could not pick up our transponder and our attempt was made to switch to number 2. Now inflight; the buttons for TCAS and transponder control were frozen. No transponder was available for ATC. Air traffic control was extremely helpful. They allowed us to climb to FL270 and continue our flight. No difficulties or problems were encountered. Perhaps a positive selection to transponder #2 prior to takeoff in this condition would allow normal ops. After landing; the aircraft was shut down and 20 minutes later restarted. The frozen buttons (TCAS and transponder) were now working again so 'air mode' appeared to play a part. VOR 1 also failed enroute; seemingly from computer blocking auto-tune function and true function. The MEL of the 'MRC1' amber message and ADF 1 inop was completed by our maintenance department prior to departure.
