Narrative:
During departure sequence I communicated to the cockpit that they were 'clear to start' the engines. The cockpit mistakenly set the brakes instead while the aircraft was being towed causing a severe jolt to both the aircraft and pushback tractor. This jolt nearly caused my ejection from the driver's seat possibly opening myself to severe injury.
