Narrative:

Departed fat, departure gave a new altitude of 3000' and the first officer acknowledged on the radio. I was flying and blew right through the altitude as the first officer was running the climb checklist. Departure reminded us of the assigned altitude 3000' and reported traffic. We were going through 3500' and promptly corrected. Factors: WX clear and 20+ mi, smooth. Had 5 duty days in a row, a 1 day trip and a 3 day trip. The 2 day trip was a reduced rest ron. The 3 day trip was 7 legs on day #1, reduced rest ron, 8 legs on day 2 with 11 hours rest and this trip was the first leg of day #3. My physiological plugs were fouled from the preceding 4 days. Approximately 2 hours before the flight my wife informed me that our CAT (who was effectively our 'only child' and my 'good friend' was killed in action that morning--hit by a car. I was grieving over that at the time of occurrence.
