Narrative:
Issue: we cancelled our takeoff clearance on 22R at ewr; when the tower cleared us for takeoff due to winds out of crosswind limits. The wind reported by the ATC tower at takeoff clearance was 320/22g36 which gave us a 35 knot crosswind against an aircraft limit of 30 knots. We waited 'line up and wait' for a few minutes with subsequent wind updates continuing out of limits. We asked the tower for a runway 29 takeoff at this point; which occurred thereafter.planning: we discussed the wind; and its varying speeds while in the gate; before taxi; and developed a plan to use 22R as it was the active departure runway. We monitored the tower frequency for a short bit; and heard some winds exceeding our crosswind takeoff limit. The backup plan was to use runway 29 for takeoff and we looked at the data in preparation for plan B.actual: as we approached taxiway Y for 22R; I noticed a band of light snow showers approach the west side of the airport; the winds increased also along with some light snow. The wind however continued to increase.summary: due to crosswind limits we cancelled the takeoff clearance on 22R; and elected to take off on runway 29. Conditions were light snow showers and strong; gusty winds - with a wind shear profile selected.strong; gusty crosswinds that exceeded our takeoff crosswind limits of 30 knots.

Title: Air carrier Captain reported cancelling their takeoff clearance from Runway 22R at EWR and requesting Runway 29 due to crosswind exceeding the aircraft limit.
