Narrative:

VFR departures at hnl for single engine aircraft are usually assigned freeway departure, maintain heading to freeway, follow freeway to koke head VOR, maintain 1500'. Often very turbulent. Asked clearance for shoreline departure. Usually reserved for twins. Clearance passed request on to tower and departure. Tower approved shoreline (clear of sand island and maintain 1500'. Did not specify close to shoreline. After passing sand island 150 degree, departure asked heading, I gave her 150 degree. She replied, should have been cleared along close to diamond head. I immediately corrected. Controller advised I had gotten in the departure path of other aircraft. I believe our departure clearance should read exactly the VFR route we should take.

Narrative: VFR DEPS AT HNL FOR SINGLE ENGINE ACFT ARE USUALLY ASSIGNED FREEWAY DEP, MAINTAIN HDG TO FREEWAY, FOLLOW FREEWAY TO KOKE HEAD VOR, MAINTAIN 1500'. OFTEN VERY TURBULENT. ASKED CLRNC FOR SHORELINE DEP. USUALLY RESERVED FOR TWINS. CLRNC PASSED REQUEST ON TO TWR AND DEP. TWR APPROVED SHORELINE (CLEAR OF SAND ISLAND AND MAINTAIN 1500'. DID NOT SPECIFY CLOSE TO SHORELINE. AFTER PASSING SAND ISLAND 150 DEG, DEP ASKED HDG, I GAVE HER 150 DEG. SHE REPLIED, SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLRED ALONG CLOSE TO DIAMOND HEAD. I IMMEDIATELY CORRECTED. CTLR ADVISED I HAD GOTTEN IN THE DEP PATH OF OTHER ACFT. I BELIEVE OUR DEP CLRNC SHOULD READ EXACTLY THE VFR ROUTE WE SHOULD TAKE.
