Narrative:
IFR briefing indicated low ceiling, snow due to late winter storm to arrive at denver beginning 1 hour after our projected time of arrival, light to moderate ice forecast with this WX but remaining north of route of flight until after our arrival. IFR filed denver centennial with goodland, co as alternate. Snow encountered west of goodland VOR with trace of rime ice on leading edges. Requested climb to 10000' from 8000', did not encounter any more ice. Lowered by center to 8000' at thurman VOR, picked up trace of mixed ice, then no more until just after handoff to denver approach. Rapidly iced with mixed ice. After just 90 seconds, aircraft was disabled to the point of inability to climb. Reported this to approach, was vectored to centennial ILS. Began losing altitude, RPM, carburetor ice causing loss of power. Received vectors to denver apa, front course ILS. Began losing stabilator control, pitching rapidly up and down, buffeting as if to stall. Acquired ILS, crossed LOM at 6100' MSL, intercepted glide slope, broke out at 5800', landed safety. No injuries, no damage to aircraft. Deeply grateful to denver approach control. Airport elevation 5400' MSL at approach end.

Title: AN EXCITING EVENT AS LOW TIME SMA PLT ENCOUNTERS ICE AND EXPERIENCES LOSS OF ACFT CONTROL, ALT DEVIATION AND ESSENTIALLY IS IN A PARTIALLY CONTROLLED FLT TOWARDS TERRAIN.
Narrative: IFR BRIEFING INDICATED LOW CEILING, SNOW DUE TO LATE WINTER STORM TO ARRIVE AT DENVER BEGINNING 1 HR AFTER OUR PROJECTED TIME OF ARRIVAL, LIGHT TO MODERATE ICE FORECAST WITH THIS WX BUT REMAINING N OF ROUTE OF FLT UNTIL AFTER OUR ARR. IFR FILED DENVER CENTENNIAL WITH GOODLAND, CO AS ALTERNATE. SNOW ENCOUNTERED W OF GOODLAND VOR WITH TRACE OF RIME ICE ON LEADING EDGES. REQUESTED CLIMB TO 10000' FROM 8000', DID NOT ENCOUNTER ANY MORE ICE. LOWERED BY CENTER TO 8000' AT THURMAN VOR, PICKED UP TRACE OF MIXED ICE, THEN NO MORE UNTIL JUST AFTER HANDOFF TO DENVER APCH. RAPIDLY ICED WITH MIXED ICE. AFTER JUST 90 SECONDS, ACFT WAS DISABLED TO THE POINT OF INABILITY TO CLIMB. REPORTED THIS TO APCH, WAS VECTORED TO CENTENNIAL ILS. BEGAN LOSING ALT, RPM, CARBURETOR ICE CAUSING LOSS OF POWER. NO INJURIES, NO DAMAGE TO ACFT. DEEPLY GRATEFUL TO DENVER APCH CTL. ARPT ELEVATION 5400' MSL AT APCH END.
