Narrative:
Air carrier X was vectored at FL350 for traffic at FL350 near the gunne intersection. Additional traffic on J80 at FL350 forced the radar controller to descend air carrier X to FL330 to avoid the traffic. Air carrier X was given a heading to intercept J80, however he went through J80 and came within 4 1/2 mi of air carrier Y heading sebnd at FL330. Air carrier X climb back to FL350 after missing traffic was not fast enough to ensure sep with air carrier Y. I feel that air carrier X's climb could have been faster to help the situation, but that he had been vectored and descended for traffic already and was not helping out the situation to get level at FL350.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR X FAILED TO INTERCEPT AIRWAY AS INSTRUCTED. PLT DEVIATION. ACR X HAD LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION FROM ACR Y. SYSTEM ERROR.
Narrative: ACR X WAS VECTORED AT FL350 FOR TFC AT FL350 NEAR THE GUNNE INTXN. ADDITIONAL TFC ON J80 AT FL350 FORCED THE RADAR CTLR TO DSND ACR X TO FL330 TO AVOID THE TFC. ACR X WAS GIVEN A HDG TO INTERCEPT J80, HOWEVER HE WENT THROUGH J80 AND CAME WITHIN 4 1/2 MI OF ACR Y HDG SEBND AT FL330. ACR X CLB BACK TO FL350 AFTER MISSING TFC WAS NOT FAST ENOUGH TO ENSURE SEP WITH ACR Y. I FEEL THAT ACR X'S CLB COULD HAVE BEEN FASTER TO HELP THE SITUATION, BUT THAT HE HAD BEEN VECTORED AND DSNDED FOR TFC ALREADY AND WAS NOT HELPING OUT THE SITUATION TO GET LEVEL AT FL350.
