Narrative:

On issuing takeoff clearance osh tower failed to issue a turn right or left, or on course. This resulted in our maintaining runway heading (360 degree) on our initial climb until contact with chicago center. At this time center advised of a possible traffic due to our failure to initiate an immediate turn to our on course heading. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter said that he had been into osh several times before, but that this was the first time he remembered using runway 36. He also doesn't remember if he was the flying pilot during previous occasions. Runway 36 is opposite their normal direction of flight, while runway 18 is pretty much aligned with their departure course. Reporter said that, up until this occurrence, they had also received clrncs that basically said 'fly direct wbound' without a specific heading instruction. After his occurrence, he says that osh tower issues a heading instruction. Reporter said he finds it odd that there were never specific headings assigned out of osh, but neither he nor the captain questioned the clearance on this occasion.

Title: FO ON COMMUTER SMT FLIES RWY HEADING AFTER DEP FROM OSH BECAUSE NO SPECIFIC HEADING WAS ASSIGNED IN THE CLRNC. UPON CONTACTING ZAU, FLT CREW WAS TOLD THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE TURNED ON COURSE.

Narrative: ON ISSUING TKOF CLRNC OSH TWR FAILED TO ISSUE A TURN RIGHT OR LEFT, OR ON COURSE. THIS RESULTED IN OUR MAINTAINING RWY HDG (360 DEG) ON OUR INITIAL CLIMB UNTIL CONTACT WITH CHICAGO CENTER. AT THIS TIME CENTER ADVISED OF A POSSIBLE TFC DUE TO OUR FAILURE TO INITIATE AN IMMEDIATE TURN TO OUR ON COURSE HDG. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH REPORTER REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: REPORTER SAID THAT HE HAD BEEN INTO OSH SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE, BUT THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME HE REMEMBERED USING RWY 36. HE ALSO DOESN'T REMEMBER IF HE WAS THE FLYING PLT DURING PREVIOUS OCCASIONS. RWY 36 IS OPPOSITE THEIR NORMAL DIRECTION OF FLT, WHILE RWY 18 IS PRETTY MUCH ALIGNED WITH THEIR DEP COURSE. REPORTER SAID THAT, UP UNTIL THIS OCCURRENCE, THEY HAD ALSO RECEIVED CLRNCS THAT BASICALLY SAID 'FLY DIRECT WBOUND' WITHOUT A SPECIFIC HDG INSTRUCTION. AFTER HIS OCCURRENCE, HE SAYS THAT OSH TWR ISSUES A HDG INSTRUCTION. REPORTER SAID HE FINDS IT ODD THAT THERE WERE NEVER SPECIFIC HDGS ASSIGNED OUT OF OSH, BUT NEITHER HE NOR THE CAPT QUESTIONED THE CLRNC ON THIS OCCASION.
