Narrative:
On 4/thu/90 on flight from dtw to day, we started to taxi and takeoff on runway 21C at dtw. After takeoff (first officer flying) during climb, as I proceeded with climb check, I noticed the pod door open light on the skirt panel on. The pod door is not on taxi or climb checklist. I caught the door light in my scan and as I was getting ready to report to ATC, the departure controller called and said that they had reports that our pod door was open. I answered that we needed to return and that information was correct. I asked for equipment to follow us. I think possibly better locking system on the door would have prevented this incident, and if the pod door was on taxi check, it would prevent the problem.

Title: COMMUTER FLT CREW NOTICED POD DOOR LIGHT ON AFTER TKOF. FLT CREW WAS ALSO ADVISED BY DEP CTLR THAT ANOTHER ACFT HAD REPORTED THE POD DOOR OPEN.
Narrative: ON 4/THU/90 ON FLT FROM DTW TO DAY, WE STARTED TO TAXI AND TKOF ON RWY 21C AT DTW. AFTER TKOF (F/O FLYING) DURING CLB, AS I PROCEEDED WITH CLB CHK, I NOTICED THE POD DOOR OPEN LIGHT ON THE SKIRT PANEL ON. THE POD DOOR IS NOT ON TAXI OR CLB CHKLIST. I CAUGHT THE DOOR LIGHT IN MY SCAN AND AS I WAS GETTING READY TO RPT TO ATC, THE DEP CTLR CALLED AND SAID THAT THEY HAD RPTS THAT OUR POD DOOR WAS OPEN. I ANSWERED THAT WE NEEDED TO RETURN AND THAT INFO WAS CORRECT. I ASKED FOR EQUIP TO FOLLOW US. I THINK POSSIBLY BETTER LOCKING SYS ON THE DOOR WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS INCIDENT, AND IF THE POD DOOR WAS ON TAXI CHK, IT WOULD PREVENT THE PROB.
