Narrative:
I noticed that the smoke goggles looked new and it looked like a nose piece was missing. I tried them on at cruise and there was a huge gap (2 finger widths) between the goggles and my nose and cheekbones. There was still a gap that you could see through with the oxygen mask on. I showed [this to] maintenance when we landed. He said we must have gotten a good deal on them. The captain and I planned to talk to the chief pilot about it; but all of them were out of the office after we landed.I forgot to write the as soon as possible report until I came back to flying; and all the goggles on the aircrafts I flew this week had the same mask. Training did not demonstrate these new goggles; as the captain had just been through training. Please investigate. Unless there's a certain way to marry the mask to the goggles; then I do not think the new goggles will keep smoke and contaminates out. This is a big safety concern in my opinion. They also seemed to be quite narrow in the temples. They might not fit every face. Two other pilots tried these goggles on with similar results pertaining to the large gap. Please have several people try the new goggles on to see if they work. I think they will have to be replaced.
