Narrative:

Cleared to descend from FL350 to FL310 and to expect holding due to severe WX in area and low visibility at dfw. Quickly followed by clearance to descend to FL240, proceed to cotton intersection and hold as published. While descending through 25200', captain called entering holding. ZFW came back and said he had cleared us to FL260. I immediately leveled off at FL250 as center came back and said for us to turn to 120 degree (we were just starting a right turn in holding pattern and were heading about 170 degree) and to continue to descend to FL240. All three of us in the cockpit thought we heard the clearance to descend to FL240. The captain had placed FL240 in the altitude alert and also read back the clearance to descend to FL240 to center. We proceeded to land at dfw west/O further incident. Once on the ground, the captain called center and they said there was no conflict, no problem.
