Narrative:
I felt my engine losing power so I started to look for a spot to put it down. As I was passing over glen ellyn golf club, I heard a bang and I got a bad vibration. As I was over a heavily populated area, I put her down on the golf course. No damage to plane, ground, or property. No complaints from anyone. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information. Reporter said that it turned out that a connecting rod broke in the engine. Unfortunately, the FAA is claiming that his aircraft was not airworthy due to a variety of maintenance deficiencies and no proof of annual. Reporter said FAA inspected the aircraft after the landing and would not let him remove it for several days. During that time, the aircraft and engine logbooks were stolen from the pocket behind the seat, and the reporter has been unable to get verification of the aircraft's annual from the mechanic because the mechanic is a transient who works out of his truck.

Title: PLT OF SMA LOSES POWER AND EXPERIENCES ENGINE ROUGHNESS DURING FLT. HE MAKES PRECAUTIONARY LNDG ON GOLF COURSE. LATER LEARNS THAT ENGINE CONNECTING ROD HAD BROKE.
Narrative: I FELT MY ENG LOSING PWR SO I STARTED TO LOOK FOR A SPOT TO PUT IT DOWN. AS I WAS PASSING OVER GLEN ELLYN GOLF CLUB, I HEARD A BANG AND I GOT A BAD VIBRATION. AS I WAS OVER A HEAVILY POPULATED AREA, I PUT HER DOWN ON THE GOLF COURSE. NO DAMAGE TO PLANE, GND, OR PROPERTY. NO COMPLAINTS FROM ANYONE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO. RPTR SAID THAT IT TURNED OUT THAT A CONNECTING ROD BROKE IN THE ENG. UNFORTUNATELY, THE FAA IS CLAIMING THAT HIS ACFT WAS NOT AIRWORTHY DUE TO A VARIETY OF MAINT DEFICIENCIES AND NO PROOF OF ANNUAL. RPTR SAID FAA INSPECTED THE ACFT AFTER THE LNDG AND WOULD NOT LET HIM REMOVE IT FOR SEVERAL DAYS. DURING THAT TIME, THE ACFT AND ENG LOGBOOKS WERE STOLEN FROM THE POCKET BEHIND THE SEAT, AND THE RPTR HAS BEEN UNABLE TO GET VERIFICATION OF THE ACFT'S ANNUAL FROM THE MECH BECAUSE THE MECH IS A TRANSIENT WHO WORKS OUT OF HIS TRUCK.
