Narrative:
Climbing up to FL290 the center gave us FL330. I asked the first officer to request FL290 as a final. This was approved, however FL330 was already in the altitude preselect and the first officer failed to reset it to FL290 and I missed it as I was telling 'war stories' about my CRM class that I had just attended two days prior. When the center called us, as we were climbing out of 30500', and asked us where we were climbing to and we confessed that we had not reset the altitude to agree with the assigned altitude. He asked us which we would like, either FL290 or FL330. We requested to continue the climb to FL330. This was approved. The captain was too preoccupied telling CRM stories and not minding the store. Supplemental information from acn 142597.I set FL290 in computer and preselect altitude but did not set it in altitude alert window center called us at 30500' and ask if we wanted FL330 or FL290.
