Narrative:
On departure from palomar, air carrier trainer was assigned 6000' and a 310 degree heading to intercept 148 degree radial of seal beach VOR. After 3 mins, level at 6000', san diego departure issued a turn to 130 degree for traffic separation in trail to lax. Very shortly the voice changed and the supervisor issued an immediate turn to 130 degree and an immediate climb to 7000' and said that an small transport was 1 O'clock less than a mi at 6000'. We initiated the turn and climb immediately and at the same time required visual contact on the small transport. At no time did the small transport take any evasive action. I believe that the lateral distance between my aircraft and the closed to less than 1/2 mi. But by this time my aircraft had climbed at least 300'. Both aircraft were on IFR flight plans. The basis for incident was controller error.
