Narrative:

After receiving clearance from tower for takeoff on runway 28L in sfo; at approximately 85 knots (IAS); the runway status lights; embedded in the pavement of the runway turned red indicating a dangerous condition for takeoff. A rejected takeoff maneuver was immediately executed. The maximum indicated airspeed reached was approximately 95 knots. The aircraft gross weight was 198;500 lbs. We exited runway 28L to the south and prior to the intersecting runway. We then informed tower that the rejected takeoff was made because the red runway status lights illuminated. We returned to the gate and maintenance personnel performed a 'high energy stop' inspection. No abnormalities were found and we continued our flight without further complications.I believe the runway status lights detected an unsafe condition and worked as expected.
