Narrative:
Contacted phoenix approach directly over the stanfield VOR and requested clearance to fly to and land at falcon field in mesa. The controller said that he was unable to get radar contact and to continue inbound to falcon field, hoping to get radar contact closer in. Approximately 10 mi south of falcon field it became apparent that the aircraft's transponder had failed. The controller allowed the aircraft to proceed to falcon field and land.
