Narrative:

IFR flight from bed to ilg. South of jfk on V16, asked ny approach to leave frequency for two mins to call fltwatch (122.0) for ilg WX. They approved. I contacted fltwatch and then recontacted ny approach. On initial contact, they informed me that I had reversed course and violated protected airspace. [The primary cause was] task overload, [secondly, the] rudder of [the] airplane was badly out of rig, and airplane did not have rudder trim. This caused airplane to enter turn when flown hands/feet off.
