Narrative:
Step descent into ord with ARTCC (132.2) from FL240. Told to descend 15 north of bvt to 15000' on V7. Acknowledged, set altitude alert, and complied with descent. Just before handoff to ord center, ind asked confirm last assigned altitude. We replied 15000'. Controller said, 'should be FL190, but anyhow, maintain 15000'.' then he handed us off to ord center (he did not appear to be upset). No further incident. We suspect a misunderstanding between controllers.

JUST BEFORE HDOF TO ORD CENTER, IND ASKED CONFIRM LAST ASSIGNED ALT. WE REPLIED 15000'. CTLR SAID, 'SHOULD BE FL190, BUT ANYHOW, MAINTAIN 15000'.' THEN HE HANDED US OFF TO ORD CENTER (HE DID NOT APPEAR TO BE UPSET). NO FURTHER INCIDENT. WE SUSPECT A MISUNDERSTANDING BTWN CTLRS.
