Narrative:
I lost my wallet so I reported my certificates and medical lost to the respective offices in oklahoma city. I found my certificates and medical in my flight case that night remembering my new 'safe-keeping place' for the documents, but did not contact any offices in oklahoma city about my discovery. The next day I started a 3 day trip, which ended in alb that day. The next morning in alb, after performing a runup on the air carrier mdt prior to my first flight, we taxied to the gate. An official of the FAA then boarded our aircraft, presented the proper documents, and subsequently asked to see our pilot certificates. After much looking, I declared my documents lost. The flight was cancelled. Later the FAA official asked me if I had the certificates when flying the previous day. I said, 'of course.' I dead-headed home and am trying to get in touch with the appropriate offices in oklahoma city to receive a telegram to serve as temporary certificates.
