Narrative:

We were departing teterboro airport runway 24. As we approached the end of the runway we were cleared for an immediate takeoff or to hold short. We accepted the immediate takeoff clearance, as we positioned on the runway I asked for a review of the SID. I was told to fly runway heading to 1500' turn right to a heading of 280 degree then climb to 3000'. As we took off I called for gear up and after takeoff checklist. At that time teterboro tower handed us off to new york departure, the other pilot switched frequencys but was unable to make contact with new york departure because of frequency congestion. While he was trying to make contact with new york departure, I had climbed to 1500' made the right turn to 280 degree and had started the climb to 3000' which had been set in the altitude alerter. As we were reaching 2000' the other pilot made contact with new york departure and told them we were climbing to 3000' on a 280 degree heading. At that point new york departure told us to descend immediately to 1500', which we acknowledged and made a rapid descent to 1500'. When we leveled off at 1500', new york departure came back on the radio and cleared us to climb back up to 3000'. The new york approach controller then came back on the radio and told us our hold down altitude was 1500' and that we should take a better look at the SID next time, and then he handed us off to new york center. I believe that with the rush to takeoff and the congestion of the area were part of the contributing factors of this misunderstanding. Another factor is that the crew was familiar with the SID but from a different runway which is more commonly used, and needed to take a more careful look at the SID.

Title: GA LTT ALT DEVIATION TO COMPLY WITH SID OUT OF TEB.

Narrative: WE WERE DEPARTING TETERBORO ARPT RWY 24. AS WE APCHED THE END OF THE RWY WE WERE CLRED FOR AN IMMEDIATE TKOF OR TO HOLD SHORT. WE ACCEPTED THE IMMEDIATE TKOF CLRNC, AS WE POSITIONED ON THE RWY I ASKED FOR A REVIEW OF THE SID. I WAS TOLD TO FLY RWY HDG TO 1500' TURN R TO A HDG OF 280 DEG THEN CLB TO 3000'. AS WE TOOK OFF I CALLED FOR GEAR UP AND AFTER TKOF CHKLIST. AT THAT TIME TETERBORO TWR HANDED US OFF TO NEW YORK DEP, THE OTHER PLT SWITCHED FREQS BUT WAS UNABLE TO MAKE CONTACT WITH NEW YORK DEP BECAUSE OF FREQ CONGESTION. WHILE HE WAS TRYING TO MAKE CONTACT WITH NEW YORK DEP, I HAD CLBED TO 1500' MADE THE R TURN TO 280 DEG AND HAD STARTED THE CLB TO 3000' WHICH HAD BEEN SET IN THE ALT ALERTER. AS WE WERE REACHING 2000' THE OTHER PLT MADE CONTACT WITH NEW YORK DEP AND TOLD THEM WE WERE CLBING TO 3000' ON A 280 DEG HDG. AT THAT POINT NEW YORK DEP TOLD US TO DSND IMMEDIATELY TO 1500', WHICH WE ACKNOWLEDGED AND MADE A RAPID DSNT TO 1500'. WHEN WE LEVELED OFF AT 1500', NEW YORK DEP CAME BACK ON THE RADIO AND CLRED US TO CLB BACK UP TO 3000'. THE NEW YORK APCH CTLR THEN CAME BACK ON THE RADIO AND TOLD US OUR HOLD DOWN ALT WAS 1500' AND THAT WE SHOULD TAKE A BETTER LOOK AT THE SID NEXT TIME, AND THEN HE HANDED US OFF TO NEW YORK CTR. I BELIEVE THAT WITH THE RUSH TO TKOF AND THE CONGESTION OF THE AREA WERE PART OF THE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS OF THIS MISUNDERSTANDING. ANOTHER FACTOR IS THAT THE CREW WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE SID BUT FROM A DIFFERENT RWY WHICH IS MORE COMMONLY USED, AND NEEDED TO TAKE A MORE CAREFUL LOOK AT THE SID.
