Narrative:
Left sfo on flight on the offshore 1 departure runway 01L. There was another aircraft (air carrier) taking off on runway 01R. We were told that as soon as he broke ground we would be able to takeoff. Just as the other aircraft took off we were released. Enclosed is the SID. The sun was just setting at the time. The tower had said he had lost the other aircraft through the broken layers of clouds. We delayed our turn because we could not see him and we could not maintain visibility sep under these conditions. Departure asked us to turn. We did after we knew we were clear of the other aircraft.
