Narrative:
3 possible altitude deviations in 1 day. XA30 EDT, 20 NM northeast of fdy (12000') (ZOB); XC00 EDT, mizar intersection, 35 NM south of detroit (11000') (detroit approach); XG15 EDT, spica intersection, 47 NM east of salem VOR (11000') (detroit approach). In each event the first officer was off center/approach frequency talking to dispatch or getting ATIS. Captain deviated from altitude +/- up to 400' while being PF and trying to work radar ad same time. First officer glanced at altimeter and alerted captain immediately. Deviation corrected. Causes: captain is retired USA.F. Heavy transport pilot used to flying at high altitude, low (good) WX environment with autoplts and does not seem accustomed to heavy terminal density operations in twin turboprop aircraft with no autoplt; fly aircraft first, then deal with other issues (captain did not do this).

Title: FO OF ACR TURBOPROP REPORTS MULTIPLE ALT DEVIATIONS DUE TO CAPT'S POTENTIAL LACK OF PROFICIENCY AND HIS DISTR WITH TRYING TO OPERATE THE WX RADAR WHILE FLYING THE ACFT.
Narrative: 3 POSSIBLE ALT DEVIATIONS IN 1 DAY. XA30 EDT, 20 NM NE OF FDY (12000') (ZOB); XC00 EDT, MIZAR INTXN, 35 NM S OF DETROIT (11000') (DETROIT APCH); XG15 EDT, SPICA INTXN, 47 NM E OF SALEM VOR (11000') (DETROIT APCH). IN EACH EVENT THE F/O WAS OFF CENTER/APCH FREQ TALKING TO DISPATCH OR GETTING ATIS. CAPT DEVIATED FROM ALT +/- UP TO 400' WHILE BEING PF AND TRYING TO WORK RADAR AD SAME TIME. F/O GLANCED AT ALTIMETER AND ALERTED CAPT IMMEDIATELY. DEVIATION CORRECTED. CAUSES: CAPT IS RETIRED U.S.A.F. HEAVY TRANSPORT PLT USED TO FLYING AT HIGH ALT, LOW (GOOD) WX ENVIRONMENT WITH AUTOPLTS AND DOES NOT SEEM ACCUSTOMED TO HEAVY TERMINAL DENSITY OPS IN TWIN TURBOPROP ACFT WITH NO AUTOPLT; FLY ACFT FIRST, THEN DEAL WITH OTHER ISSUES (CAPT DID NOT DO THIS).
