Narrative:
I was training on the final position. The deviation approved 2 aircraft to enter the final airspace using vertical sep. 1 an small aircraft IFR at 9000', the other an small transport IFR at 10000'. Both were coming from the same direction at the same time. When the small transport checked on frequency the deviation told him to maintain 9000'. I, as the trner, didn't hear him issue the descent to 9000'. I observed the small transport at 9900', then at 9800'. I determined the small transport was descending and took action to turn the small transport away from the small aircraft. The small transport responded to the instructions and stated, 'we have the small aircraft in sight.' he was then told to maintain visibility sep and instructed to continue southbound and descended to 9000'. The small aircraft was then issued the traffic on the small transport and had him in sight. The deviation's phraseology was, 'flying heading 150, maintain 9000',' as opposed to, 'descend and maintain...' I never heard the deviation issue the clearance. The above was later discovered off the tape.

Title: TRACON DEVELOPMENTAL CTLR DESCENDED AN ACFT INTO ANOTHER ACFT WHICH RESULTED IN LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION.
Narrative: I WAS TRNING ON THE FINAL POS. THE DEV APPROVED 2 ACFT TO ENTER THE FINAL AIRSPACE USING VERT SEP. 1 AN SMA IFR AT 9000', THE OTHER AN SMT IFR AT 10000'. BOTH WERE COMING FROM THE SAME DIRECTION AT THE SAME TIME. WHEN THE SMT CHKED ON FREQ THE DEV TOLD HIM TO MAINTAIN 9000'. I, AS THE TRNER, DIDN'T HEAR HIM ISSUE THE DSNT TO 9000'. I OBSERVED THE SMT AT 9900', THEN AT 9800'. I DETERMINED THE SMT WAS DSNDING AND TOOK ACTION TO TURN THE SMT AWAY FROM THE SMA. THE SMT RESPONDED TO THE INSTRUCTIONS AND STATED, 'WE HAVE THE SMA IN SIGHT.' HE WAS THEN TOLD TO MAINTAIN VIS SEP AND INSTRUCTED TO CONTINUE SBND AND DSNDED TO 9000'. THE SMA WAS THEN ISSUED THE TFC ON THE SMT AND HAD HIM IN SIGHT. THE DEV'S PHRASEOLOGY WAS, 'FLYING HDG 150, MAINTAIN 9000',' AS OPPOSED TO, 'DSND AND MAINTAIN...' I NEVER HEARD THE DEV ISSUE THE CLRNC. THE ABOVE WAS LATER DISCOVERED OFF THE TAPE.
