Narrative:
At 00Z on flight captain and I departed the gate and taxied to runway 9L at atl. There was no indication of any problem. The takeoff was accomplished with no problems at 08Z. Shortly after takeoff (approximately 10Z) both engine driven gens tripped off line. The volts and frequencys were checked and were normal. The gen switches were reset and then moved to on in an attempt to reconnect the gens to the electrical system one at a time. This did not work. At this point the captain directed me to fly the aircraft while he worked the problem. He could not get the gens on line either, so he moved the emergency power switch to on and declared an emergency with ATC. ATC gave us an immediate right turn into their traffic pattern and then asked the normal questions (i.e.; souls on board, fuel, etc). The aircraft never ascended above 6000' MSL. I continued to fly the aircraft while the captain talked to ATC and accomplished checklists. The captain assumed the flying of the aircraft on base leg. We asked tower to put the glasses on us to assure that the gear was down. It was confirmed down just as we believed. The captain continued the approach and landing uneventfully. We landed at 27Z and arrived at the gate at 27Z. On taxi-in the emergency was terminated. We both commented that this situation could have been disastrous if the WX had been IFR. Fortunately the WX was excellent--clear as a bell with light winds.

Title: LOSS OF PRIMARY ELECTRICAL SUPPLY CAUSES ACR MLG TO RETURN LAND.
Narrative: AT 00Z ON FLT CAPT AND I DEPARTED THE GATE AND TAXIED TO RWY 9L AT ATL. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF ANY PROB. THE TKOF WAS ACCOMPLISHED WITH NO PROBS AT 08Z. SHORTLY AFTER TKOF (APPROX 10Z) BOTH ENG DRIVEN GENS TRIPPED OFF LINE. THE VOLTS AND FREQS WERE CHKED AND WERE NORMAL. THE GEN SWITCHES WERE RESET AND THEN MOVED TO ON IN AN ATTEMPT TO RECONNECT THE GENS TO THE ELECTRICAL SYS ONE AT A TIME. THIS DID NOT WORK. AT THIS POINT THE CAPT DIRECTED ME TO FLY THE ACFT WHILE HE WORKED THE PROB. HE COULD NOT GET THE GENS ON LINE EITHER, SO HE MOVED THE EMER PWR SWITCH TO ON AND DECLARED AN EMER WITH ATC. ATC GAVE US AN IMMEDIATE RIGHT TURN INTO THEIR TFC PATTERN AND THEN ASKED THE NORMAL QUESTIONS (I.E.; SOULS ON BOARD, FUEL, ETC). THE ACFT NEVER ASCENDED ABOVE 6000' MSL. I CONTINUED TO FLY THE ACFT WHILE THE CAPT TALKED TO ATC AND ACCOMPLISHED CHKLISTS. THE CAPT ASSUMED THE FLYING OF THE ACFT ON BASE LEG. WE ASKED TWR TO PUT THE GLASSES ON US TO ASSURE THAT THE GEAR WAS DOWN. IT WAS CONFIRMED DOWN JUST AS WE BELIEVED. THE CAPT CONTINUED THE APCH AND LNDG UNEVENTFULLY. WE LANDED AT 27Z AND ARRIVED AT THE GATE AT 27Z. ON TAXI-IN THE EMER WAS TERMINATED. WE BOTH COMMENTED THAT THIS SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS IF THE WX HAD BEEN IFR. FORTUNATELY THE WX WAS EXCELLENT--CLR AS A BELL WITH LIGHT WINDS.
