Narrative:
We had a fly-in breakfast at 0k5, jerseyville, il. The wind was questing from the west. The runway is 18-36. The traffic was using runway 18. I took off with 3 passengers on board with no problem. After about 20 mins I started back to the airport. I heard a broadcast that a plane was down in the threshold area. The plane ahead of me was told to land but came in high. I proceeded in the pattern. On my final approach, I did not feel comfortable landing over the accident, so I announced I would land on runway 36 since it was a x-wind. I was advised from the ground that I could fly to aln or land at my own discretion. I felt I could make the landing, but the wind quested and the plane overshot my target area. I was running out of runway, so I turned east into a field. After slowing the plane down, I turned around and returned to the runway. There were no injuries nor real damage to the plane except the right wheel faring had a 2' crack on the side at the bottom. The nose wheel faring has a small crack, both are easy repaired.

I WAS RUNNING OUT OF RWY, SO I TURNED E INTO A FIELD. AFTER SLOWING THE PLANE DOWN, I TURNED AROUND AND RETURNED TO THE RWY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES NOR REAL DAMAGE TO THE PLANE EXCEPT THE R WHEEL FARING HAD A 2' CRACK ON THE SIDE AT THE BOTTOM. THE NOSE WHEEL FARING HAS A SMALL CRACK, BOTH ARE EASY REPAIRED.
