Narrative:

[After departure] at about 500 feet AGL; the left engine oil pressure light illuminated on the central warning panel in red with three chimes. The captain was flying and asked me to run the emergency checklist. He continued flying and handled the radios. While I was running the low oil pressure checklist; I heard a loud explosion and the inlet turbine temperature went all the way to the red light and torque began to drop. The engine had failed with the positive auto coarsen and negative fire. We ran the engine failure memory item; then secured the engine with the checklist. We ran the single engine climb; in range; descent and before landing checklists and landed [back at departure airport] all within about 15 minutes. Since there was no fire; the captain decided to taxi back to the ramp single engine and explain [to] maintenance what happened.
