Narrative:
Traffic at the airport was fairly moderate. Aircraft #2 (light transport) was holding short of runway 5L on runway 14. Aircraft #1 (small transport) was in position and holding for departure on runway 5L. Local control cleared aircraft #1 for takeoff. Ground control cleared aircraft #2 to cross runway 5L. Local control aborted the takeoff of aircraft #1. No damage resulted. The situation resulted due to lack of coordination/communication between local control/ground control amidst increasing traffic conditions.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACFT'S TKOF WAS ABORTED WHEN ANOTHER ACFT WAS CLEARED TO CROSS THE RWY.
Narrative: TFC AT THE ARPT WAS FAIRLY MODERATE. ACFT #2 (LTT) WAS HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 5L ON RWY 14. ACFT #1 (SMT) WAS IN POS AND HOLDING FOR DEP ON RWY 5L. LCL CTL CLRED ACFT #1 FOR TKOF. GND CTL CLRED ACFT #2 TO CROSS RWY 5L. LCL CTL ABORTED THE TKOF OF ACFT #1. NO DAMAGE RESULTED. THE SITUATION RESULTED DUE TO LACK OF COORD/COM BTWN LC/GC AMIDST INCREASING TFC CONDITIONS.
