Narrative:
After an all night cargo flight from dpa, dupage, il, to dunton airport, al. Upon return to dupage airfield on my taxi into the local FBO there was construction on the ramp area adjacent to the only taxiway to get to parking. As I taxied on the yellow line at a below normal taxi speed to assure that my wing tips would clear the lighted barricades, one of the construction workers placed an unmarked surveyors instrument on a tripod behind one of the barricades so that only the instrument was protruding above the top of the barricade. I did not see this since it was unmanned and unmarked and during any abnormal operation, ie, construction, the yellow line is supposed to guarantee aircraft taxiing clearance. If not I believe they are supposed to close the taxiway or repaint a new line that provides clearance. The result was a 3' diameter surveyors instrument dent in the leading edge.
