Narrative:
PIC doubted fuel gauges, fuel truck pump problems. PIC asked first officer and ramp agent if fuel was pumped in plane. First officer answered yes. Apparently fuel truck was not operating properly and incorrect readings were on fuel truck counter, as compared to what actually was in airplane. In cruise, left engine failure. Crew shut down engine in accordance with emergency checklist and landed at an alternate airport with no further incident. No emergency was declared.
