Narrative:
While on a heading of 090 degree to intercept jfk right 115 degree at a level of 5000', ATC requested 290 KTS. We advised of our position/altitude and said it was a far violation. A rather urgent reply came back 'I am aware of that, maintain 290 KTS'. This was complied with fearing a traffic conflict. Departure control frequency 135.9.
