Narrative:
I was pilot flying and both the first officer (first officer) and I had to go to the bathroom. The flight attendants called up; we said the password and opened the door. I went to the bathroom first and then had the flight attendant (flight attendant) call up front and let them know I was ready to come back to the cockpit and the first officer said he was gonna come out also. As I opened the door the first officer walked out; I said 'what are you doing?' and squeezed by him quickly in the doorway and got in my seat and closed the door. The flight controls were left unattended for a couple seconds. Inform the first officer's and stress that you cannot leave the cockpit unattended. Also; the new flight attendant was obviously unaware of the procedures for entering and exiting the cockpit while inflight.
