Narrative:
Ord was very busy and controllers tried hard to work with no delays. I was instructed to taxi into position and hold while an airline jet (probably a large transport or widebody transport) was still holding in position. The jet was cleared for takeoff in the same transmission in which I was instructed to taxi into position, but after my instructions. Upon taxiing onto 27L the jet blast lifted the right wing and pushed the left wing to the ground, where it was bent upwards from the tip of the first rib. The propeller was bent severely. The whole thing lasted about 1 second and I was back on all wheels. Causes: 1) taxi instruction to small aircraft before takeoff clearance for jet, 2) no warning of jet blast, 3) pilot did not refuse instruction and 4) aircraft was perpendicular to departing jet path.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: SMA BLOWN OVER ON WING TIP AND HAS PROPELLER STRIKE AS HE TAXIED BEHIND A 3 ENGINED ACR JET WHO WAS JUST CLEARED FOR TKOF. REPORTER STATES THAT HE WAS NOT WARNED OF POSSIBLE WAKE TURBULENCE OR JET BLAST.
Narrative: ORD WAS VERY BUSY AND CTLRS TRIED HARD TO WORK WITH NO DELAYS. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD WHILE AN AIRLINE JET (PROBABLY A LGT OR WDB) WAS STILL HOLDING IN POS. THE JET WAS CLRED FOR TKOF IN THE SAME XMISSION IN WHICH I WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAXI INTO POS, BUT AFTER MY INSTRUCTIONS. UPON TAXIING ONTO 27L THE JET BLAST LIFTED THE RIGHT WING AND PUSHED THE LEFT WING TO THE GND, WHERE IT WAS BENT UPWARDS FROM THE TIP OF THE FIRST RIB. THE PROP WAS BENT SEVERELY. THE WHOLE THING LASTED ABOUT 1 SEC AND I WAS BACK ON ALL WHEELS. CAUSES: 1) TAXI INSTRUCTION TO SMA BEFORE TKOF CLRNC FOR JET, 2) NO WARNING OF JET BLAST, 3) PLT DID NOT REFUSE INSTRUCTION AND 4) ACFT WAS PERPENDICULAR TO DEPARTING JET PATH.
